Steve Lanzo Verona NJ Obituary, Death: Steve Lanzo, a respected coach and longtime figure within the Montclair Hockey Club community, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Verona, New Jersey, on Friday evening, surrounded by his family.
Lanzo’s death was announced in a statement from the club, where he was remembered not only as a dedicated coach but also as a board member and trusted friend. Over the years, he played a significant role in shaping the development of young athletes, coaching multiple teams across different age groups.
He notably led his son Blake’s team from their early “Mites” years through to the Bantam level, building strong bonds with players and families alike. A proud alumnus of the Montclair hockey programme, Lanzo first made his mark as a player at Montclair High School before continuing his involvement in the sport at a higher level.
He later served as head coach of the men’s hockey team at Montclair State University, where he further demonstrated his commitment to mentoring student-athletes.
Beyond his coaching achievements, Lanzo contributed to the governance and growth of the Montclair Hockey Club through his service on its board, offering guidance and leadership that helped sustain the organisation over time.
He is survived by his wife, Kendra, and their children, Sadie, Blake and Chase. The club has asked the community to keep his family in their thoughts during this difficult period. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
